HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G Review: A Sharp Screen, Fast Charging and One Big Catch

by Prakash Dhanasekaran

Product Naming: Getting the Right Device

If you are looking at the HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G, start with one simple check: make sure you are looking at the right phone.

HMD’s Vibe range includes several models with similar names, and retail listings do not always make the differences clear. That can make it easy to compare the wrong phone when checking price, specifications, camera, battery, performance, or 5G support.

In this HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G review, we look beyond the spec sheet to see what this phone offers for the money, where it fits among other budget 5G smartphones, and whether it makes sense for everyday use. We also check the details that matter when buying online, including the exact model identification.

With over 20 years of experience in hardware and application research and development, we focus on real-world performance, durability, and value for money. This review is aimed at students, first-time smartphone buyers, families, budget-conscious users, and anyone comparing affordable 5G phones before buying.

Before you compare prices or hit the buy button, there is one important detail about the HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G you should check first.

ON RETAILER AVAILABILITY

The HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G is a Flipkart exclusive in India at launch. At the time of writing, we found no product listing for this model on Amazon.com or Amazon.in — searches on both marketplaces returned rival handsets and third-party accessories only.

HMD does operate official brand storefronts on both Amazon sites, linked above and at the end of this article. They carry other HMD products but not this model. Indian launches sometimes widen to additional platforms after an exclusivity window, so the position may change.

Design and Build: Reading the Numbers

At 195 g per HMD’s sheet (197 g in some retail listings) and 9.3 mm thick, the HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G is on the heavier side for a phone in this price range. The 6,000mAh battery and 6.78-inch screen account for much of the weight.

The trade-off is straightforward. A lighter phone would mean a smaller battery or a smaller screen. Buyers who value one-handed use should handle the device before committing; buyers who prioritise battery runtime and screen area generally find the mass acceptable.

The 6,000mAh cell and the 6.78-inch screen decide this phone’s weight before the designers get a say.

HMD has published no IP rating for this model. The related HMD Vibe 2 5G was reported as IP64-rated by Gadgetbridge and Smartprix, so some splash resistance is plausible here — but that is an inference, not a stated specification. Treat the Pro as having no certified water or dust resistance.

Two connectivity details are worth separating from the marketing. The 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo speakers are reported by GSMArena and Smartprix but do not appear on HMD’s own specification sheet, which lists only “2” speakers and “2” microphones under Audio. The absence of NFC is reported by the same sources and also does not appear on HMD’s sheet.

Display: Where the 6.78-Inch FHD+ 120Hz Panel Genuinely Helps

If a single specification justifies this phone’s price, it is the screen. The reason is resolution rather than size.

The HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G uses a 1080 × 2460 panel, which works out to 396 ppi. Two of its closest rivals do not: the Samsung Galaxy F70e 5G and the Redmi 15C 5G both use 720 × 1600 (HD+) panels at roughly 260 ppi. The practical effect is that text in messaging apps, news articles and e-books renders more sharply, and 1080p video plays at native resolution instead of being upscaled.

THE 269 PPI FIGURE IS INCORRECT

At least one Indian specification aggregator lists this phone's pixel density as 269 ppi. That value is inconsistent with a 1080 × 2460 resolution on a 6.78-inch panel, which computes to 396 ppi. Buyers comparing specification sheets across sites will encounter the discrepancy; the higher figure is the arithmetically correct one.

The 120Hz refresh rate means the panel refreshes twice as often as a standard 60Hz screen, which makes scrolling and interface animation appear smoother. HMD quotes 800 nits of typical brightness on its product page — a useful figure for outdoor legibility, though it is a manufacturer-stated typical value rather than a measured peak.

The panel is LCD, not OLED. Black areas will appear dark grey rather than truly black, and power draw at equivalent brightness is higher than an OLED panel would be. At this price, an LCD panel is standard rather than a shortcoming.

Performance: What the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 Handles

The Dimensity 6300 is an octa-core 6 nm platform with two Cortex-A76 cores at 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz, paired with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. HMD’s sheet names the chipset but not the core configuration.

Judged from the specification profile rather than from testing, the likely envelope is:

  • Everyday tasks sit comfortably inside Messaging, social apps, video calls, web browsing, navigation and UPI payments are well within this chip’s capability.
  • Multitasking favours the 8 GB The 6 GB model will hold fewer apps resident in memory. The ₹2,000 difference between configurations buys usable headroom for anyone who keeps many apps open.
  • Gaming is limited to lighter The Mali-G57 MC2 supports casual and moderately demanding games at reduced settings. High-frame-rate competitive titles will need lowered graphics.
  • The phone supports eight 5G NR bands, including n77 and n78, giving it broad band support for Indian networks.

HMD advertises virtual RAM, which allocates part of the storage as extra memory. This is a software technique rather than physical RAM. HMD’s own footnote states the feature is permanently disabled once storage reaches 90% of its usage limit, which the company estimates can occur after about four years of heavy use.

Cameras: Reading Past the 64MP Sony IMX682 Figure

The 64MP Sony IMX682 primary sensor with PDAF is a component used in several mid-range phones. Phase-detection autofocus can help keep moving subjects such as children, pets and traffic sharper.

The 64MP figure should not be treated as a guarantee of better photos. Depending on the camera software, the sensor may use pixel binning for its standard output. The higher resolution can help with daylight detail and cropping, but it does not determine overall image quality.

The 2 MP macro secondary camera is best treated as a specification-sheet addition; at 2 megapixels, its output has limited practical use. For photographic purposes, this is effectively a single-camera phone with a 13 MP front unit for selfies and video calls.

We do not have sample images to assess HMD’s image processing. If camera quality is your main reason for buying, check published samples before making a decision.

Battery and Charging

A 6,000mAh cell driving an FHD+ LCD and an efficiency-oriented chipset should see most users through a full day, and moderate users may get longer than that. LCD panels can draw more power than OLED depending on brightness and content, but the 6,000mAh capacity may offset some of that difference. This is an expectation derived from the specification profile, not a measured result.

The more concrete gain is charging. The HMD Vibe 2 5G charges at 18W; the Pro moves to 33W. HMD also includes a compatible charger, which its specification sheet lists explicitly under “In the box”.

WHY THE BUNDLED CHARGER MATTERS

Not every phone in this segment ships with a fast charger. Where one is absent, the buyer absorbs the cost separately — typically a four-figure rupee amount for a compatible adapter of similar wattage. When comparing headline prices, adding that cost to a charger-less rival produces a fairer comparison.

Note that the Samsung Galaxy F70e 5G also offers expandable storage, so bundled chargers and storage slots should not be treated as automatic HMD advantages across the segment.

Software and Update Policy: The Deciding Factor

The HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G ships with Android 16. HMD’s specification sheet states “2 years quarterly security update” and lists no Android version upgrade. No Android version upgrade has been announced, so buyers should not assume the phone will move beyond Android 16.

This deserves more weight than the camera or the processor.

Security patches address known vulnerabilities that can affect banking apps, UPI credentials and personal data. Once updates stop, the phone still works, but its security protection no longer improves. Older Android versions can also face app-compatibility limits over time.

THE COMPARISON THAT SHAPES THE RECOMMENDATION

The Samsung Galaxy F70e 5G uses the same Dimensity 6300 and has the same 6,000mAh battery. Its 6 GB + 128 GB configuration launched at ₹14,999, matching the HMD's launch offer for the same configuration. Samsung promises six years of OS and security updates.

That is roughly a four-year gap in support on closely comparable hardware. For a buyer who keeps a phone three years or more, which is common in this segment, this is the decisive difference.

In fairness, an update policy only has value if the owner keeps the device long enough to use it. Someone replacing a phone every two years will not feel the difference, and for that buyer the HMD’s hardware advantages carry more weight.

Indus AI by Sarvam: What the Assistant Actually Offers

The HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G ships with Indus, an assistant from Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI, handling questions, drafting and planning across 22+ Indian languages.

Sarvam describes Indus as an India-focused assistant built around Indian languages and context. Indus is also available as a standalone app outside HMD hardware.

The practical benefit concerns the first-time smartphone owner who is more comfortable in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali or Marathi than in English. Indus is designed around Indian languages and local context, which may make regional-language interactions feel more natural. Comparative performance still depends on the language and task.

THE CAVEAT BUYERS SHOULD WEIGH

Indus is a free app available on most Android phones. It is not exclusive to HMD hardware and can be installed on a device someone already owns.

What HMD supplies is day-one availability and discoverability, not exclusivity. For a user who would not think to search an app store for an assistant in their own language, that is a real convenience.

Purchasing this phone for Indus alone would not be a sound basis for the decision.

Two details are worth flagging as less firmly sourced. Sarvam’s model has been reported in press coverage as having around 105 billion parameters, and Indian coverage reports that Sarvam hosts its servers and data in India. Neither figure was confirmed against Sarvam’s own published documentation, so both should be read as reported rather than verified.

On whether Indus is better than ChatGPT or Gemini, there is no single answer. The choice depends on the language and task. Indus is built around Indian languages and local context, while ChatGPT and Gemini offer broader capability for areas such as complex English work, coding and research. We have not benchmarked them against each other.

Sanchar Saathi and Other India-Specific Features

The phone supports Sanchar Saathi, the Indian government’s telecom safety platform. It lets users block a lost or stolen handset, check how many mobile connections are registered against their name, and report suspected fraud calls or messages.

Two clarifications apply. The app is free and available on most Android phones, so it is not an HMD feature. Coverage from Hindustan Times and LiveMint indicates the app is preloaded, but that installing or using it is optional.

HMD has also drawn attention to its after-sales service network in India. For buyers outside metro areas, service centre coverage is a legitimate purchase criterion that rarely appears in specification comparisons.

HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G vs Samsung Galaxy F70e: Display, Camera, Battery and Software Support

Both phones use the same processor and the same battery capacity, which makes this the comparison that matters most.

- Techwiser lists the F70e box contents as phone, USB-C to C cable and SIM ejector tool, with no charger.
- 91mobiles launch coverage. Gadgetbridge reported ₹14,499 for the same configuration. The 4 GB + 128 GB F70e variant launched at ₹12,999.

Where the HMD is ahead on specifications: display resolution (396 ppi against roughly 260 ppi), charging speed, the bundled charger, and front camera resolution.

Where the Samsung is ahead: software support, by approximately four years.

Where they are closer than expected: both offer expandable storage, and the F70e’s claimed ceiling is higher. Resolution figures favour the HMD, but a higher megapixel count does not by itself establish better image quality.

ON CURRENT F70E PRICING

We could not establish a single reliable current price for the Galaxy F70e. In early October 2026, Indian price trackers listed it across a wide band — roughly ₹15,949 (Beebom, 6 Oct), ₹16,140 (Gadgets 360), ₹16,999 (91mobiles, 6 Oct), ₹17,941 for the 6 GB variant (Smartprix) and ₹18,499 (Comparos). One point from this table deserves emphasis. The Redmi 15C 5G — the closest hardware match to the HMD — launched with Android 15 and carries a promise of two major OS updates and four years of security patches. That is a longer support commitment than the HMD’s two years of security updates with no OS upgrade, from a phone that launched in India nearly 10 months earlier.

Price ₹10,499 sale price from 8 Oct 2026 (₹11,499 listed) ₹14,999 launch offer (₹15,999 listed)

HMD Vibe 2 5G figures from HMD’s official specification page for that model, except cameras (91mobiles and My Mobile India) and pricing (Notebookcheck and 91mobiles).

The substantive gains are display resolution, the chipset, the front camera and charging speed, alongside a reduction in weight. Battery capacity is unchanged at 6,000 mAh, and the Vibe 2’s specification sheet lists microSD support up to 1 TB against the Pro’s 512 GB.

For a buyer moving up from an older device, the step is reasonable. For someone who already owns the HMD Vibe 2 5G, the case is weaker — the battery, the headline feature of the series, is identical, and the differences concentrate in screen sharpness and charging speed.

HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G: Strengths and Limitations

STRENGTHS

Buying Advice Before the 8 October Sale

  • Choose the configuration The ₹2,000 difference between the 6 GB and 8 GB models buys real multitasking headroom. If many apps stay open, the 8 GB variant is the better value over a two-year ownership period.
  • Compare like for like. The HMD’s ₹14,999 launch offer applies to 6 GB + 128 GB. The Galaxy F70e’s ₹14,999 launch price applied to the same configuration, while its 4 GB variant launched at comparison.
  • ₹12,999. Matching configurations before matching prices avoids a misleading comparison.
  • Add the charger cost to rivals that omit Where a comparable phone ships without a fast adapter, the effective price is higher than the sticker suggests.
  • Check bank offers at Big Billion Days pricing typically stacks instant card discounts on top of the listed price. Compare the final payable amount, not the headline figure.
  • ·    Verify the model number before ordering. The 6 GB listing uses M819MKM3502A10, while the 8 GB listing uses M819MKM3502A11. The model name should be Vibe2 Pro 5G — not Vibe 2 5G or Vibe 5G.
  • Note the SIM and storage trade-off. The slot is shared, so a second SIM and a microSD card cannot both be fitted.

HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G: Frequently Asked Questions

Is HMD the same company as Nokia?

No. HMD Global is a Finnish company that held a licence to make Nokia-branded phones from 2016 and now sells devices under its own HMD name while still producing some Nokia-branded feature phones.

The design language of HMD handsets will feel familiar to long-time Nokia users.

Does the HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G receive Android updates?

No major Android version upgrade has been announced. The phone ships with Android 16 and HMD’s specification sheet states two years of quarterly security updates. HMD has not stated that the phone will receive an Android version upgrade.

Is Indus AI exclusive to HMD phones?

No. Indus by Sarvam AI is a free app available on Android, iOS and the web, and can be installed on most Android phones. HMD’s integration makes it available from the first boot and easier to find, but it is not a hardware exclusive.

Is Indus better than ChatGPT or Gemini?

It depends on the language and the task. Indus is built for Indian languages and local context, so it should handle Hindi, Tamil or Marathi queries more naturally. For complex English tasks, coding and research, the global assistants currently offer broader capability. We have not benchmarked the two against each other.

What is the Sanchar Saathi app?

It is the Indian government’s telecom safety platform. It allows a lost or stolen handset to be blocked, shows how many mobile connections are registered against a name, and provides a route to report suspected fraud calls or messages. It is free, available on most Android phones, and reports indicate that installing it is optional on this device.

Where can the HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G be bought?

It goes on sale on 8 October 2026 through Flipkart in India, during the Big Billion Days sale. At the time of writing, no listing was found on Amazon.com or Amazon.in.

Is the HMD Vibe2 Pro available in the United States?

No. HMD confirmed in July 2025 that it was scaling back its US operations, and its US webstore no longer sells phones. The HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G is an India-market device with no US product page.

Does the HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G have a headphone jack and stereo speakers?

Both are reported by GSMArena and Smartprix. HMD’s specification sheet lists two speakers and two microphones but does not list either the jack or the speaker configuration explicitly, so these details rest on third-party listings rather than the manufacturer’s sheet.

Does the HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G support NFC?

No. NFC is reported as absent by GSMArena and Smartprix, and it does not appear on HMD’s specification sheet. Contactless tap-to-pay at terminals will not work; UPI payments through QR codes and apps are unaffected.

Does the HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G have a water-resistance rating?

HMD has not published an IP rating for this model. The related HMD Vibe 2 5G was reported as IP64-rated, but no equivalent rating has been stated for the Pro.

Which phone is the better value: the HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G or the Samsung Galaxy F70e 5G?

It depends on the ownership period. Over roughly two years, the HMD offers the sharper screen, faster charging and a bundled charger at a comparable launch price. Over three years or more, the Galaxy F70e’s six-year update commitment is the stronger argument, since the HMD’s security patches stop after two.

Why are budget phone prices rising in India?

Memory prices have come under pressure as demand from AI and data-centre hardware increases, alongside wider supply and pricing factors. Budget phones can feel that pressure more because memory represents a larger share of their total build cost. Some brands raise prices; others reduce RAM or storage at the same price point.

Final Verdict

Our assessment

The HMD Vibe2 Pro 5G is a capable budget handset with a sharp FHD+ display, fast charging and a large battery. Its biggest weakness is the two-year security update commitment with no Android version upgrade stated. Against the Samsung Galaxy F70e 5G, the HMD is ahead on display resolution, charging speed and the bundled charger, while Samsung has a much longer software-support

commitment. At the ₹14,999 launch offer, the HMD makes a strong case for buyers who plan to keep the phone for around two years. At its ₹15,999 listed price, it remains cheaper than many current F70e listings, but Samsung’s longer support still makes it the better choice for buyers planning a longer ownership period.

The main question is how long you plan to keep the phone.

For two years or less, the sharper screen, faster charging, bundled charger, stereo speakers and headphone jack make the HMD a sensible option. For three years or more, Samsung’s longer update commitment is the stronger reason to spend more, while the Redmi 15C 5G also offers four years of security updates.

The Indus AI integration is a genuine convenience for its intended audience, but it should be treated as a bonus rather than a reason to buy, since the same assistant is freely available on other Android phones.
