A second configuration of MSI’s 8-inch Windows handheld trades the Arc G3 Extreme processor’s Arc B390 graphics for Arc B370 and halves the SSD on the US listing. Here is what is verified, what is still only a retailer listing, and what nobody has benchmarked yet.
If you’re considering the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, there are two configurations to keep straight. The Intel Arc G3 and Intel Arc G3 Extreme processors share the same 14-core CPU layout, 8-inch display and 80 Whr battery, but the GPU, power range and storage differ. The price gap also changes by market.
This comparison is aimed at PC gamers, handheld gaming buyers, hardware enthusiasts and shoppers looking for a Windows gaming handheld without paying for hardware they may not need.
With more than 20 years of experience in hardware and application research and development, we review products from a buyer’s point of view. We look at performance, build quality, durability, specifications, real-world usability and value for money so you can see what matters before you spend your money.
There is also a naming detail that can make the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ harder to compare than it should be. The product name, model number and processor name do not always appear together in retailer listings. Getting that detail wrong can lead to a comparison between different configurations.
We’ll clear that up first, then look at the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ specifications, pricing, performance, Arc G3 vs Arc G3 Extreme differences and buying considerations.
Our recommendations are based on product research, component analysis, real-world usability and industry experience—not just the specification sheet.
Price and availability
China. The Arc G3 configuration of the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ is now on sale at CNY 10,499 for 32 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. The Arc G3 Extreme version is listed at CNY 11,499 with the same 32 GB / 512 GB configuration. That is a CNY 1,000 difference, with the two prices working out to roughly $1,563 and $1,712 at the conversion used in the source material.
These are Chinese retail prices, not US launch prices or a global MSRP. The China figures come from retail listings, so currency conversions are provided only as a rough reference.
United States. The Arc G3 (CG3M-072USY) with 32 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD is listed for pre-order at $1,499 in Luminous Blue. The retailer gives an expected arrival date of October 30, 2026, but that is a retailer estimate, not a confirmed MSI launch date. MSI has not announced a US retail launch date or official US price for the CG3M.
For comparison, the Arc G3 Extreme (CG3EM-024US) with 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD is listed at $1,799 on MSI’s US store and $1,799.99 at Best Buy. Marketplace listings can be higher, so the seller and stock status matter when comparing prices.
The $300 gap is not a like-for-like comparison. The US Arc G3 listing pairs 32 GB of RAM with a 512 GB SSD, while the US Arc G3 Extreme model pairs 32 GB with 1 TB. Compare configuration against configuration, and market against market, before treating the headline number as a saving.
Elsewhere. European pricing is available for the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM (Arc G3 Extreme), but I could not find a European price for the CG3M (Arc G3) configuration. MSI has not published a single global launch date for the CG3M. In India, MSI has not announced availability or pricing for the Claw 8 EX AI+. For context, MSI has pointed to rising memory and storage costs when discussing pricing for the current generation.
Where to buy: Amazon US and Amazon India
Amazon US. The Arc G3 Extreme configuration is listed on Amazon US as model CG3EM-024US (32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, Void Purple) under ASIN B0H4H27WJN. It is sold there by a third-party marketplace seller rather than by Amazon itself, and at the time of writing the buy box showed
$2,299.00, above MSI’s own US store price of $1,799, alongside a “Like New” used offer at $2,099.00. Treat that as a marketplace price that moves with stock, not as the standard price.
→ Check the current Amazon US listing for the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ (CG3EM-024US)
The cheaper Arc G3 configuration, CG3M-072USY, had not appeared on Amazon US at the time of writing. The only US listing we could verify for it was the ExcaliberPC pre-order above.
MSI’s own US store and major US retailers have listed the Arc G3 Extreme model, but availability and prices can change.
Amazon India. There is no Amazon India listing for the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ at the time of writing. The MSI Claw page we could find is for the previous-generation MSI Claw 8 AI+ (A2VM-015) with an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, and that page is currently unavailable. It is not a listing for the new hardware.
→ Check the Amazon India page for the previous-generation MSI Claw 8 AI+ (shown as currently unavailable)
For readers in India, the handhelds in stock on Amazon India at the time of writing are alternatives to the MSI model:
→ ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X (2025), RC73XA-NH016W — listed at ₹1,39,990, in stock and fulfilled through Amazon India
→ Valve Steam Deck OLED, 512 GB — listed at ₹89,990 from a marketplace seller
Two cautions apply to both. Indian prices can move independently of US pricing, and the Steam Deck listing is fulfilled by a marketplace seller rather than Valve. Before buying an imported Claw 8 EX AI+, check who handles the warranty and whether local support applies.

Table notes and source conflicts
- The processor, GPU, NPU and power figures are based on Intel’s official product specifications for the Arc G3 and Arc G3 Extreme processors.
- MSI’s Claw 8 EX AI+ specification sheet lists 48–120 Hz VRR. The CG3M retailer listing states an 8-inch 1920 × 1200 120 Hz touchscreen, while independent reporting says the display specification is unchanged between the two configurations.
- On the NPU, sources disagree. One processor database lists 50 TOPS INT8 for the Arc G3 Extreme, while Intel lists 46 TOPS INT8 for both Arc G3 and Arc G3 Extreme. This article follows Intel’s figure because it is the manufacturer’s current specification.
- The card-reader standard also differs by source. MSI lists a microSD Express reader for the Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM, while the CG3M retailer listing uses the wording “Micro SD 0.” We have not found enough evidence to resolve that difference for the CG3M, so the article uses the broader term microSD reader where needed.
- GPU and NPU TOPS figures are separate engine ratings at INT8 They should not be added together, and they are not frame-rate measurements.
What actually changes
Graphics is the substantive change
The Arc B370 has 10 Xe3 cores against 12 in the Arc B390, a lower maximum GPU clock of 2.2 GHz versus 2.3 GHz, and a lower peak INT8 graphics rating of 90 versus 113 TOPS. These are hardware ratings, not measured frame rates, so the actual gaming gap will depend on the game, settings, resolution and power limit.
The power ceiling, not the core count
Intel lists a configurable power range of 8–30 W for Arc G3 and 8–35 W for Arc G3 Extreme. Both processors have a 25 W processor base power and 80 W maximum turbo power. On a handheld, sustained performance also depends on the thermal and power limits, so the lower ceiling matters alongside the smaller GPU. Only matched testing can show the size of the performance gap.
Storage and finish
The verified configurations differ in SSD capacity—512 GB versus 1 TB—and colour, Luminous Blue versus Void Purple. MSI lists a single M.2 2280 slot. The CG3M listing does not state whether the drive is user-replaceable, so that should be confirmed before buying.
What stays the same
Beyond the shared display, battery and chassis, the Claw 8 EX AI+ platform includes Hall Effect analog sticks and triggers, RGB ABXY buttons, a D-pad with a metal dome switch, M1/M2 macro buttons, HD haptics, a 6-axis IMU, a fingerprint sensor, 2 × 2 W speakers with an array microphone, dual Thunderbolt 4 ports with DisplayPort and Power Delivery 3.0, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, a 65 W PD adapter, and Windows 11 Home with MSI Center M and Xbox Mode. Some of these details are confirmed on the CG3EM specification sheet or the CG3M retailer listing rather than a dedicated CG3M product page.
MSI also lists Intel XeSS 3 and Multi Frame Generation among the platform’s gaming technologies. MSI describes the Claw 8 EX AI+ as the world’s first gaming handheld powered by an Arc G3 Extreme processor and promotes its 80 Whr battery as best-in-class. Those are MSI’s claims. Where a feature depends on a particular processor or GPU configuration, check the exact model before treating it as confirmed for that SKU.
Performance: what can be said now
As of 29 September 2026, we found no published independent benchmark results for the Claw 8 EX AI+ with Arc G3. The detailed reviews available test the Arc G3 Extreme configuration, so their performance and battery figures should not be applied to the cheaper model:
- IGN measured the Arc G3 Extreme model as up to 47% faster than the previous Claw 8 AI+ in 3DMark Time Spy and 54% faster in Cyberpunk 2077. Those results apply to the Extreme configuration, not the Arc G3 model discussed here.
- Notebookcheck measured 13 hours 36 minutes in a Wi-Fi test at 150 nits on the Arc G3 Extreme model, and between 1:39 and 3:19 hours in Cyberpunk 2077 depending on the power profile. These results are from the Extreme configuration and should not be used as battery estimates for the Arc G3 model.
- XDA reported that the Arc G3 Extreme mostly beat the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme in its testing, with some exceptions. Again, those results are for the Extreme configuration.
What can be inferred from the verified specifications is narrower: with fewer Xe3 cores, a lower graphics clock and a lower power ceiling, the Arc G3 configuration should have less graphics throughput than the Arc G3 Extreme under equivalent conditions. The size of that difference is unknown until the Arc G3 SKU is tested at the same resolution, game settings and power limit.
Battery life is a separate question. Both configurations use the same 80 Whr battery, so the cheaper model should not be assumed to last longer simply because its GPU is smaller. A lower graphics load could reduce power use in some situations, but published runtime figures currently apply to the Extreme model. MSI has not published battery figures for the Arc G3 configuration.
How it compares
Two reference points from the same category are included below, using US list prices available in late September 2026. The comparison is meant to show the hardware and price gap, not to rank the devices.
| Specification | Claw 8 EX AI+ (Arc G3) | ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X | Valve Steam Deck OLED |
| Chip | Intel Arc G3 (Panther Lake); Arc B370 graphics | AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme | AMD custom APU (6 nm) |
| Memory | 32 GB LPDDR5X-8533 | 24 GB LPDDR5X | 16 GB (unified memory) |
| Storage | 512 GB (M.2 2280) | 1 TB (M.2 2280) | 512 GB / 1 TB |
| Display | 8-inch 1920 × 1200 IPS-level, 48–120 Hz VRR | 7-inch 1920 × 1080 IPS-level, 120 Hz, AMD FreeSync Premium VRR | 7.4-inch 1280 × 800 HDR OLED, up to 90 Hz |
| Battery | 80 Whr | 80 Whr | 50 Whr |
| Operating system | Windows 11 Home | Windows 11 | SteamOS |
| US price, time of writing | $1,499 (pre-order listing, 32 GB / 512 GB) | $999.99 list | $789 (512 GB) / $949 (1 TB) |
Three caveats matter when reading the table. First, these devices use different memory capacities and speeds, so a like-for-like performance comparison requires matched memory configurations. Second, the Steam Deck OLED runs SteamOS rather than Windows, which changes game compatibility and setup. Third, there is no matched-settings benchmark set that includes the Arc G3 configuration, so processor names alone do not establish gaming performance.
The Steam Deck OLED prices reflect Valve’s US list prices after the increase on 27 May 2026, which Valve attributed to rising memory and storage costs. The ROG Xbox Ally X figure is ASUS’s US list price for the 24 GB / 1 TB configuration.
In India, ASUS sells the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X locally. The ROG Xbox Ally X launched at ₹1,14,990 and the ROG Xbox Ally at ₹69,990 in October 2025. MSI has not announced the Claw 8 EX AI+ for India, so any imported unit should be checked for warranty and local support before purchase.
Who it suits, and who it does not
The Arc G3 configuration is aimed at buyers who want the Claw 8 EX AI+’s 8-inch screen, 80 Whr battery, Hall Effect controls and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, and who mostly play older titles, indie games or competitive multiplayer, or who are comfortable lowering settings or using upscaling in newer releases. The 14-core CPU layout and Windows software stack remain the same, so the main trade-off is graphics performance and storage.
It is a tougher fit for buyers who want the most graphics headroom in this family, expect high settings at the native 1920 × 1200 resolution in demanding new releases, or need 1 TB without replacing the SSD. Those buyers should compare the Arc G3 Extreme model and other handhelds before deciding.
Before you order
- Confirm the model number: CG3M-072USY (Arc G3) versus CG3EM / CG3EM-024US (Arc G3 Extreme).
- Confirm the GPU: Arc B370 versus Arc B390.
- Confirm the RAM and SSD pairing, since configurations differ by market.
- Check whether the price is a pre-order, launch or in-stock price, and confirm the country and currency
- Treat retailer arrival dates as estimates until MSI confirms them.
- Check warranty coverage for your region, especially for imported units.
- Confirm which seller is shipping the unit and who handles warranty, since marketplace listings may not include local MSI support.
- Look for independent reviews of the Arc G3 SKU before buying if gaming performance is the main reason for your purchase.
